I si vingués la dona més formosa que mai ha viscut a la terra i em
digués: “El meu cos delectable serà teu, però d’ara endavant
mai més et serà permès de cantar, has de renunciar al cant:” –
Jo li diria: “Tu bellíssima, fuig, no en seduiràs pas.”
I si el mateix rei davallés del seu tron i cridés:
“Agafa l’esplèndida corona, però deixa les teves cançons,” –
Jo li diria: “Senyor rei, mil salutacions! Resteu a dalt al vostre
tron, el meu joiós art no està en venda, ni per mil corones d’or.”
I si Déu em deixés entrar al cel, malgrat totes
les meves mancances, i digués: “Aquí has de restar silent,
aquí només canten els àngels:” –
Jo li diria: “Estimat Déu, deixa’m estar a la teva formosa terra,
car allà dalt, sense cançons, no podria ser pas feliç.”
