Seit jenem Tage sprühen, Seit jenem Tage glühen Die Flammen ihres Zepters Durch alles ird'sche Land.

Once from your beauty, o my sweet bliss, a ray, a seed of rapture, through all the heavens above, through spaces just illuminated, spread itself -- and gave birth to a new divinity; This was Love, the heart's fearsome queen. And over the heavens she brandished a flaming, sparkling scepter in her proud hand; But only angels stood amidst her fire, ice-cold and unmoved. Anger seized the goddess; she flew down to earth, toward the receptive hearts of mankind she turned her wings. Since that day -- flashes, since that day -- glows the blaze of her scepter through all earthly lands.
