Young hands helped to adorn me, Old lips blessed me, The bridal train flutters quietly Over the steps decorated with flowers, And the veil falls over me. Whispering, people stand aside -- I do not hear what they say. With a roar the organ swells toward me, And like a golden blessing from God The sun glides across my pale face. With a thousand pious wishes in my heart, With holy dread in my child-like spirit, I kneel silently at the blessed gateway Of our happiness, and the words of the priest Echo solemnly through the church.
