De la poupe à la proue
Une ombre droite et fine.

Et l’écume irisée
Joyeusement envoie
Sa brillante rosée
A la barque élancée.

La mer calme murmure
Et berce avec tendresse,
La frêle créature
Qui doucement
Se laisse aller à la caresse.

Où dort la mer profonde,
Ne crains rien de l’abîme
Car aucune paix sublime
Au loin règne sur l’onde
Viens, oublions le monde,
Viens !

Seascape

Come, the mischievous sail
Plays games with the wind,
And our mast leans 
From the stern to the prow,
A shadow straight and fine.

And the iridescent foam
Joyously sends
Its glistening dew
To the slender boat.

The calm sea murmurs
And tenderly cradles
The frail creature,
Who gently 
Lets itself be caressed.

Where the deep sea sleeps
Fear nothing of the abyss,
For there is no sublime peace
In the distance ruling the wave.
Come, let us forget the world,
Come!
