Gotische Fenster und maurisch verziertes Portal!

Von tiefem Traum besiegt,
Vom Tode eingewiegt
Schläft hier die Zeit
Und alles Leben scheint so weit, so weit!
Hier will ich ganz allein
Durch alte Gassen gehn,
Bei Fackelschein
An Gondeltreppen stehn,
In blinde Fenster sehn
Bang-glücklich wie ein Kind im Dunkeln sein.

Tu, obscur canal silenciós,
badia abandonada,
filera gris de cases antigues,
finestres gòtiques i portals amb ornaments morescs!

Vençut per un profund somni,
bressat per la mort
dorm aquí el temps
i tota vida sembla tan lluny, tan lluny!
Aquí vull caminar tot sol
pels antics carrerons,
a la llum de les torxes
aturar-me als esglaons de les góndoles,
mirar a dins de finestres orbes,
poruc i feliç com un infant en la foscor.
