Fond Memory brings the light
Of other days around me;

Of boyhood's years,

els somriures, les llàgrimes,

ara somorts i desapareguts,
els alegres cors ara partits!
Així, en la tranquil·la nit,

un trist record porta al meu entorn
la llum dels dies passats.
Quan recordo tots
els amics, tan units ensems,
que he vist caure al meu voltant,
com les fulles d’un temps hivernal,
em sento com algú
que andareja tot sol
per una sala de banquets buida,
on les llums s’han apagat,
s’han marcit les garlandes,
i tots, excepte ell, han marxat!
