Stellst du dich ein, willkommnes Schweigen,
Du, aller tiefsten Sehnsucht wert.
Sehr hab ich unter Lärm und Last
Des Tags nach dir, du scheuer Gast,
Wie einem lieben Freund begehrt.

Das wirre Leben ist verklungen,
In Höhen ging und Niederungen
Längst jeder laute Schall zur Ruh.
Urstimmen, die der Tag verschlang,
Erklingen, mystischer Gesang -
Ja, süßes Schweigen, rede du.

Was über deinen stillen Mund
Aus einem rätseltiefen Grund
Mit leisem Murmeln quillt herauf,
Ich halte zitternd meine Schalen
Und fang die feinen Silberstrahlen

Ara que les ombres s’enlairen al meu entorn,
compareixes tu, benvingut silenci,
tu, mereixedor del més pregon anhel.
Enmig del brogit i el llast del dia,
força t’he desitjat, tu, tímid hoste,
com un amic estimat.

El garbull de la vida s’ha esvanit,
a les alçàries i a les fondàries fa temps
que el fort soroll s’ha calmat.
Veus primitives, per el dia engolides,
ressonen, cant místic –
Sí, dolç silenci, parla tu.

Quelcom a la teva boca silenciosa,
des d’enigmàtiques profunditats,
sorgeix amb un lleuger murmuri,
i, tremolant, sostinc la meva copa
per, benaurat, de deus ocultes
recollir els fins raigs d’argent.
