Demandez plutôt aux étoiles
De tomber dans l'immensité,
À la nuit de perdre ses voiles,
Au jour de perdre sa clarté,

Demandez à la mer immense
De dessécher ses vastes flots,
Et, quand les vents sont en démence,
D'apaiser ses sombres sanglots!

Mais n'espérez pas que mon âme
S'arrache à ses âpres douleurs
Et se dépouille de sa flamme
Comme le printemps de ses fleurs!

de fugir lluny de vós per sempre,
i d’anar-me’n, solitari,
sense recordar a qui jo estimava!

Demaneu més aviat a les estrelles
de caure en la immensitat,
a la nit de perdre els seus vels,
al dia de perdre la seva claredat,

demaneu a la mar immensa
d’assecar les seves vastes aigües
i, quan els vents embogeixen,
d’apaivagar els seus tristos sanglots!

Però no espereu pas que la meva ànima
s’alliberi dels seus dolors
i es desfaci de la seva flama
com la primavera de les seves flors!
