Kleine Blüten, anspruchslose Blumen,
Waldrandschmuck und Wiesen durcheinander,
Rote, weiße, gelbe, blaue Blumen
Nahm ich im Vorbeigehn mit nach Hause. 
Kamen alte, liebe Zeiten wieder:
Auf den Feldern wehten grüne Hälmchen,
Süß im Erlenbusche sang der Stieglitz,
Eine ganze Welt von Unschuld sang er 
Mir und dir. 
Nun, seit Jahren, ordnen deine Hände
Perlenschnur und Rosen in den Haaren. 
Wie viel schöner, junge Frau, doch schmückten 
Kleine Blumen dich, die einst wir pflückten, 
Ich und du.

Petits boutons, fleurs sans prétentions,
Ornement luxuriant des prairies et des lisières des bois,
Fleurs rouges, blanches, jaunes, bleues,
Je vous cueillais en passant pour vous rapporter à la maison.

Les temps anciens et chers revenaient
Les petites tiges vertes flottaient au vent dans les champs,
Le chardonneret chantait dans le bois d'aulnes,
Il chantait tout un monde d'innocence, pour toi et moi.

Maintenant, depuis des années, tes mains ordonnent
Dans tes cheveux des colliers de perles et des roses,
Ils sont bien plus jolis, jeune dame,
Mais les petites fleurs ne t'ornent plus,
Celles que naguère nous cueillions, toi et moi.
