Young Lada was born 
in a birch grove;
sleepy, she lies 
in her cradle.
Her face is rosy, 
like the heavens,
her eyes are green 
as the forest.
She does not feel like waking up, 
it’s a shame to even look at her...

In the sunshine 
her light-brown braid
sparkles 
with hidden gold;
her tanned fingers 
point to the sun,
from her neck 
shine dark red beads.
Her skin is fresh, 
her lips moist with dew.

Laughing with an amazing smile, 
all Nature smiles, sleeps,
and grows 
in this cradle.
Beasts welcome her – 
her complexion pleases them.
Birds and fish 
wash themselves and scratch,
bees feed 
and produce their honey.

The child Lada 
grows more beautiful,
throws off 
her thin veils.
At once the young girl’s 
body is seen
in the green, red, 
and white leaves. 
All are grateful to her, 
for she is Spring!
