kom jeg hid fra norden;
ej hvad hjertet hist forlod,
finder det på jorden.

O, men her dog øjet ser,
hvad ved Codans strømme
aldrig uden vemod mer
sjælen sig kan drømme!

Underfuldt er her at stå;
saligt her at hvile:
I hver luftning engle små
vifte og hensmile.

Stille nat på fremmed tag!
Flamebjerg ved voven!
Velske nattergaleslag,
fra Lemoneskoven.

Nye himmel Nye jord!
Nye tryllestemmer!
Fryd, jeg drømte om i Nord!
Nu jeg dig fornemmer!

venant du nord, je suis arrivé ici ;
ce que mon cœur a laissé là-bas,
ne se trouve nulle part au monde.

Oh, mais pourtant ici les yeux peuvent voir
ce à quoi près de la rivière de Codan
on ne peut jamais plus rêver
sans mélancolie !

Il est miraculeux d'être ici,
c'est un bonheur de se reposer ici :
dans chaque vent de petits anges
font signes et sourires.

Nuit calme sur un toit étranger !
Montagnes de flammes sur les vagues !
Trilles des rossignols
Dans le bois de citronniers.

Ciel nouveau, terre nouvelle !
Magie des nouvelles voix !
Joie, dont je rêvais dans le Nord !
Maintenant je te perçois !
