kom jeg hid fra norden;
ej hvad hjertet hist forlod,
finder det på jorden.

O, men her dog øjet ser,
hvad ved Codans strømme
aldrig uden vemod mer
sjælen sig kan drømme!

Underfuldt er her at stå;
saligt her at hvile:
I hver luftning engle små
vifte og hensmile.

Stille nat på fremmed tag!
Flamebjerg ved voven!
Velske nattergaleslag,
fra Lemoneskoven.

Nye himmel Nye jord!
Nye tryllestemmer!
Fryd, jeg drømte om i Nord!
Nu jeg dig fornemmer!

Doch was hier das Auge bannt,

An der Ostsee Fluten.
 
Wundervoll ist's, hier zu stehen;
Selig, hier zu weilen:
In der Luft ja Englein wehen,
schwirren, flattern, eilen.
 
Stille Nacht nach heißem Tag!
Berg im Feuerscheine! 
Welscher Nachtigallenschlag
vom Limonenhaine!
 
Neuer Himmel! Neue Erd'!
Zauberstimmen klingen!
Freud', ersehnt am nord'schen Herd,
Nun fühl' ich dich singen!
