Und er lacht dazu nach der Morgenruh
Wie ein lustig Kind!
Aber später dann, wenn der Frost im Tann
Durch die Zweige schoß,
Ist kein Blatt mehr fest, und im Laubgeäst
Ist der Schrecken los!
In der Frühlingszeit war das Herzeleid
Mir ein Kinderspiel,
Nun erzittert matt mir das Herz,
Ein Blatt am erfrorenen Stiel!

Comme un enfant joyeux !
Mais plus tard, quand dans les sapins le gel
Tire à travers les branches,
Aucune feuille ne reste, et dans les branches
On est délivré de l'épouvante !
Au temps du printemps, un chagrin
Pour moi n'était qu'un jeu d'enfant,
Maintenant mon cœur tremble avec lassitude,
Une feuille sur une tige gelée !
