Les Comparaisons

Bergeronnette, oiseau de Kypris, chante 
avec nos premiers désirs ! Le corps nouveau 
des jeunes filles se couvre de fleurs comme 
la terre. La nuit de tous nos rêves approche 
et nous en parlons entre nous.

Parfois, nous comparons ensemble nos beautés 
si différentes, nos chevelures déjà longues, 
nos jeunes seins encore petits, nos pubertés 
rondes comme des cailles et blotties sous la 
plume naissante.

Hier je luttai de la sorte contre Melanthô 
mon aînée. Elle était fière de sa poitrine qui
venait de croître en un mois, et, montrant 
ma tunique droite, elle m'avait appelée:
Petite enfant.

Pas un homme ne pouvait nous voir, nous nous 
mîmes nues devant les filles, et, si elle 
vainquit sur un point, je l'emportai de loin
sur les autres. Bergeronnette, oiseau de 
Kypris, chante avec nos premiers désirs!

Sperling, Aphroditens Vogel, sing mit unserm
ersten Sehnen! Bedeckt mit Blüten, wie die Erde,
ist der frische Leib der Mädchen.  
Es naht die Nacht all unsrer Träume,
von der wir sprechen unter uns.

Manchmal vergleichen wir an uns das Schöne; 
so unterschiedlich ist es, unser langes Haar,
der junge und noch kleine Busen, auch unsre Scham,
die, wachtelrund, sich unter sprießend zartem 
Flaum verbirgt.

Gestern war's, dass ich auf diese Art mich maß 
mit meiner ält'ren Schwester Melanthô.
Voll Stolz war sie auf ihre Brüste, die ihr in einem Monat wuchsen;
Sie nannte mich ein kleines Kind und wies dabei
auf mein noch flaches Kleid.

Kein Mensch vermochte uns zu sehn, 
nackt zeigten wir uns vor den Mädchen, 
und siegte sie auf einem Felde,
errang den Sieg bei weitem ich auf andern.
Sperling, Aphroditens Vogel, sing mit unserm ersten Sehnen!
