Og gjöken, han hilser med friske slag
Goddag! Goddag! 
unner lövets tak, i den lyse luft 
som sittrer av sol og av blomster duft.
Goddag! Goddag!
Ja nu staar skogen i al sin glans
det er Sanktehans, 
kom ut hvert trœ er klædt
i sit sommerskrud den lyse bjerk
og den lune lind
Og kommer du langt, saa langt herind,
Og unner mit höie trœ,
da skal du al skogens deilighed se,
hvor duggen den glittrer som perlerne smaa, 
og mosen av blomster er fuld
og myggen er her ikke gusten og graa,
dens vinger er solstraale guld,
og himlen er lys,
og himlen er blaa
den lyseste himmel du saa.
Ja kom! Kom ut!

Des Kuckucks Ruf, wie klingt er so frisch, so süss!
Gott grüss! Gott grüss!
unterm dichten Laub, in der lichten Luft, 
die zittert von Sonne und Blumenduft.
Ja nun, nun steht in all seinem Glanz der Hag,
Sankt Johannistag, Kuckuck! 
rings Baum und Busch
steht im Sommerschmuck,
die weise Birke, die Linde breit.
Und kommst in den Wald hinein du weit,
so wird dir zu Häupten mein Hochbaum stehn,
und du wirst des Waldes Herrlichkeit sehn,
da glitzert von Perlen des Thaues der Saal,
im Moose stehn Blümenlein hold,
der Mücken Gewand ist nicht grau und nicht fahl:
Die Schwingen sind glänzend wie Gold,
der Himmel ist licht, der Himmel ist blau,
du sahest noch niemals so wonnige Schau.
Komm, komm, Kuckuck! unter's dichte Laub,
nun steht in Prangen und Sommerschmuck
der grüne Hag, Sankt Johannistag!
