2. Persisches Lied  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wohl endet Tod des Lebens Not,
Doch schauert Leben vor dem Tod.

Das Leben sieht die dunkle Hand,
Den hellen Kelch nicht, den sie bot.

So schauert vor der Lieb ein Herz,
Als wie von Untergang bedroht.

Denn wo die Lieb erwachet, stirbt
Das Ich, der dunkele Despot.

Du laß ihn sterben in der Nacht
Und atme frei im Morgenrot.

Text Authorship:

  • by Friedrich Rückert (1788 - 1866)

Based on:

  • a text in Persian (Farsi) by Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī (1207 - 1273) [text unavailable]

3. Auf meines Kindes Tod  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Dort [ist so]1 tiefer Schatten,
Du schläfst in guter Ruh',
Es deckt mit grünen Matten
Der liebe Gott dich zu.

Die alten Weiden neigen
Sich auf dein Bett herein,
Die Vöglein in den Zweigen
Sie singen treu dich ein.

Und wie in goldnen Träumen
Geht linder Frühlingswind
Rings in den stillen Bäumen --
Schlaf wohl mein [süßes]2 Kind!

Text Authorship:

  • by Joseph Karl Benedikt, Freiherr von Eichendorff (1788 - 1857), no title, appears in Gedichte, in 5. Totenopfer, in Auf meines Kindes Tod, no. 9
