Die Geisterinsel, die schöne, Lag dämm'rig im Mondenglanz; Dort klangen liebe Töne, Dort wogte der Nebeltanz. Dort klang es lieb und lieber, Und wogt' es hin und her; Wir aber schwammen vorüber, Trostlos auf weitem Meer.

Amore mio, sedevamo insieme, noi due soli nella barca leggera, Calma era la notte, scivolavamo trascinati dall'ampia corrente. L'isola degli spiriti, nella sua bellezza, si mostrava vaga nel chiarore lunare; Una musica dolce iniziò risuonare, nella nebbia che pareva danzare. E la dolcezza del suono si faceva più forte, per ogni luogo sembrava ondeggiare; Ma noi sulla barca passammo oltre, sconsolati verso l'ampio mare.
