[Es stand ein Sternlein]1 am Himmel, Ein Sternlein guter Art; Das tät so lieblich scheinen, So lieblich und so zart! Ich wußte seine Stelle [Am Himmel, wo es]2 stand; Trat abends vor die Schwelle, Und suchte, bis ich's fand; [Und]3 blieb dann lange stehen, Hatt' große Freud' in mir, Das Sternlein anzusehen; Und dankte Gott dafür. Das Sternlein ist verschwunden; Ich suche hin und her Wo ich es sonst gefunden, Und find' es nun nicht mehr.

Al cel hi havia una petita estrella, una petita estrella de bona mena, que brillava tan dolçament, tan dolçament i tendra! Jo coneixia el lloc del cel on ella es trobava; al vespre sortia davant la porta i la cercava fins a trobar-la; i llavors restava molt de temps dempeus, amb una gran joia dins meu, esguardant la petita estrella, i per això donava gràcies a Déu. La petita estrella ha desaparegut; la cerco per tot arreu on abans l’havia trobat, i ara ja no la puc trobar.

Lindes Rauschen in den Wipfeln, Vöglein, die ihr fernab fliegt, Bronnen von den stillen Gipfeln, Sagt, wo meine Heimat liegt? Heut im Traum sah ich [sie]1 wieder, Und von allen Bergen ging Solches Grüßen zu mir nieder, Daß ich an zu weinen fing. Ach! hier auf den fremden Gipfeln: Menschen, Quellen, Fels und Baum - [Wirres Rauschen in den Wipfeln]2 Alles ist mir wie ein Traum! Muntre Vögel in den Wipfeln, Ihr Gesellen dort im Tal, Grüßt mir von den fremden Gipfeln Meine Heimat tausendmal!

Suau remoreig a les capçades, ocellets que volen lluny, fonts dels cims silents, digueu-me, on és la meva pàtria? Avui, en somnis l’he tornat a veure i de totes les muntanyes davallaven al meu envers salutacions que m’han fet posar a plorar. Ai, aquí als cims estrangers: la gent, fonts, roques i arbres – el mormol confús a les capçades, tot és per a mi com un somni! Joiós ocell a les capçades, vosaltres, companys allà a la vall, des d’aquests cims estrangers, saludeu mil vegades la meva pàtria!
