Ja, spanne nur den Bogen, mich zu tödten,
Du himmlisch Weib! im zürnenden Erröthen
Noch reitzender. Ich werd' es nie bereuen:

Daß ich dich sah am blühenden Gestade
Die Nymphen überragen in dem Bade;
Der Schönheit Funken in die Wildniß streuen.

Den Sterbenden wird noch dein Bild erfreuen.
Er athmet reiner, er athmet freyer,
Wem du gestrahlet ohne Schleyer.

Dein Pfeil, er traf - doch linde rinnen
Die warmen Wellen aus der Wunde:
Noch zittert vor den matten Sinnen
Des Schauens süße letzte Stunde.

Please note: the title of this poem is not a mistake, as many have written to tell us. "Der" is the feminine dative case of the definite article; and the adjective that follows uses the proper matching weak-inflection ending.

Sí, tensa tu arco para inmolarme,
¡celestial mujer! Sonrojada por la cólera,
Eres aún más encantadora. Nunca lamentaré: 

Haberte visto entre los arbustos de la orilla
Despuntando de las Ninfas en el baño
Irradiando fulgores de belleza en la naturaleza salvaje.

Próximo a la muerte, me alegrará tu imagen.
Más puro, más libre respira
Quien te ha contemplado sin velo.

Tu flecha me ha vulnerado, pero suavemente 
Brotan cálidos borbotones de la herida:
Aún tiemblan de flaqueza mis sentidos
Mientras esa mirada endulza mis últimas horas.

Wenn über Berge sich der Nebel breitet,
Und Luna mit Gewölken kämpft,
So nimmt der Alte seine Harfe, und schreitet,
Und singt waldeinwärts und gedämpft:
      "Du heil'ge Nacht!
      Bald ist's vollbracht.
      Bald schlaf ich ihn
      Den langen Schlummer,
      Der mich erlöst 
      Von allem Kummer."
   Die grünen Bäume rauschen dann,
   Schlaf süß du guter alter Mann;
   Die Gräser lispeln wankend fort,
   Wir decken seinen Ruheort;
   Und mancher liebe Vogel ruft,
   O laß ihn ruh'n in Rasengruft! -

Der Alte horcht, der Alte schweigt -
Der Tod hat sich zu ihm geneigt.

Cuando las nieblas se extiendan por las montañas
Y la luna batalla con las nubes,
El viejo coge su arpa
Y camina y canta hacia el bosque
Entre murmullos:

"Noche de paz, pronto llegará el fin,
pronto dormiré el sueño de los tiempos,
que me liberará de toda pena"

Los verdes árboles crujen:
"Duerme dulcemente, buen hombre"
La hierba murmura meciéndose:
"Cubriremos tu lugar de descanso"
			
Y algunos queridos pájaros cantan:
"Dejadle descansar en su cueva de hierba"
El viejo escucha, el viejo calla:
La muerte ha descendido sobre él.
