Ich wollt' es brechen, Da sagt' es fein: "Soll ich zum Welken Gebrochen sein?" Ich grub's mit allen Den Würzlein aus, Zum Garten trug ich's Am hübschen Haus. Und pflanzt' es wieder Am stillen Ort; Nun zweigt es immer Und blüht so fort.

Caminava pel bosc al meu aire, sense pensar de cercar res. A l’ombra vaig veure una petita flor, brillant com una estrella, bella com una petita gema. La vaig voler arrencar i llavors ella delicadament en digué: „Haig de ser collida per marcir-me?“ La vaig treure de la terra amb totes les petites arrels i la vaig portar al jardí, a la meva bonica casa. La vaig replantar en un lloc tranquil; ara brosta sempre i continua florint.

Lustwandelnd [schritt]1 ein [Mädchen]2 In kühlem Waldesgrund, Und als sie dort sich bückte, Zum Strauß [sich]3 Blumen pflückte, Da kam ein bunter Falter Und küßte [ihren]4 Mund. "Verzeih' mir," sprach der Falter, "Verzeih' mir mein Vergeh'n, Ich wollte Honig nippen Und [hatte]5 deine Lippen, Dein rothes, rothes Mündchen Für Rosen angeseh'n." Da sprach zu ihm das Mädchen: "Für diesmal, kleines Ding, Will ich dir gern vergeben; Doch merke dir daneben: Nicht blühen diese Rosen Für jeden Schmetterling."
