Pace non trovo, e non ho da far guerra, E temo, e spero, ed ardo, e son un ghiaccio: E volo sopra 'l cielo, e giaccio in terra; E nulla stringo, e tutto 'l mondo abbraccio. Tal m'ha in priggion, che non m'apre, nè serra, Nè per suo mi ritien, nè scioglie il laccio E non m'ancide Amor, e non mi sferra; Nè mi vuol vivo, nè mi trahe d'impaccio. Veggio senz'occhi; e non ho lingua e grido; E bramo di perir, e cheggio aita; Ed ho in odio me stesso, ed amo altrui. Ramybės nerandu, bet ir kariaut nenoriu, Bijau, viliuosi ir degu, į ledą stingstu Į dangų vėl skrendu ir žemėn smingu, Tai nieko nejuntu arba apglėbt pasaulį puolu. Įkalina mane, kas niekad neišlaisvins, Šalia savęs laikys arba užtrauks man kilpą. Ši meilė anei žudo, anei laisvę teikia, Nenori kad gyvenčiau, bet kliūčių nepaiso. Aš be akių matau, šaukiu aš be liežuvio, Ilgiuosi aš kančios, bet ir pagalbos noriu, Nekęsdamas degu ir kitą myliu. Skausmu aš maitinuos ir verkdamas šypsausi, Vienodai man patinka būt gyvam ar mirti. Dėl Jūsų toks esu, brangioji ponia.

Mačiau aš verkiant dvi akis gražiąsias, Kurios daugkart ryškiau švytėti saulę verčia Atodūsiu girdėt kaip žodžiai sklendžia, Kurie kalvoms judėt, sustoti upėms leidžia. Tiesa ir meilė, gailestis ir skausmas Verksme į švelnų chorą susilieja Kurį girdėt pasauly moka ne kiekvienas. Dangus harmonija užlietas rodės, Kurios lapelis virpantis nejaučia.
