La città morta

Opera by Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897 - 1957)

View original-language texts alone: Die tote Stadt, op. 12

?. Tanzlied des Pierrots
 (Sung text)
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mein Sehnen, mein Wähnen,
es träumt sich zurück.
Im Tanze gewann ich,
verlor ich mein Glück.
Im Tanze am Rhein,
bei Mondenschein,
gestand mir's aus Blauaug
ein inniger Blick,
gestand mir's ihr bittend Wort:
o bleib, o geh mit nicht fort,
bewahre der Heimat
still blühendes Glück,
mein Sehnen, mein Wähnen,
es träumt sich zurück……
Zauber der Ferne
warf in die Seele den Brand.
Zauber des Tanzes
lockte, ward Komödiant.
Folgt ihr, der Wundersüssen,
lernt unter Tränen küssen.

Rausch und Not, und Wahn und Glück,
ach, das ist des Gauklers Geschick … …

?. Canzone di Pierrot
Language: Italian (Italiano)
La mia nostalgia, la mia follia,
mi portano i sogni del passato.
Nella danza ho trovato
ed ho perso la mia fortuna,
nella danza sul Reno,
al chiaro di luna,
mi confidò l'intimo sguardo
d'un occhio azzurro,
mi confidò la sua parola implorante:
oh, resta, non andare via,
tieni la gioia, che ancora
fiorisce, della patria,
la mia nostalgia, la mia follia,
mi portano i sogni del passato.
L'incanto di ciò che era lontano
mi accese nell'anima la sete,
l'incanto della danza mi sedusse,
divenni un commediante.
Seguite queste dolcezze soavi,
imparate a baciare fra le lacrime.

Ebbrezza e dolore, follia e gioia,
questo è il destino del pagliaccio.

Subtitle: Laute Lied

Language: German (Deutsch)
Marietta
Glück, das mir verblieb,
rück zu mir, mein treues Lieb.
Abend sinkt im Haag
bist mir Licht und Tag.
Bange pochet Herz an Herz
Hoffnung schwingt sich himmelwärts.

Paul
Wie wahr, ein traurig Lied.

Marietta
Das Lied vom treuen Lieb,
das sterben muss.

Paul
Ich kenne das Lied.
Ich hört es oft in jungen,
in schöneren Tagen.
Es hat noch eine Strophe --
weiß ich sie noch?

  Naht auch Sorge trüb,
rück zu mir, mein treues Lieb.
  Neig dein blaß Gesicht
  Sterben trennt uns nicht.
Mußt du einmal von mir gehn,
  glaub, es gibt ein Auferstehn.

La canzone di Marietta
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Marietta
Felicità che mi è rimasta in cuore,
ritorna ancora, mio fedele amore.
Quando cala la sera tutt’intorno
tu resti la mia luce ed il mio giorno.
I nostri cuori pulsano con ansia,
e verso il cielo vola la speranza.

Paul
Una canzone assai triste davvero

Marietta
Condannato a morire
è un amore sincero.

Paul
Conosco questa canzone,
la ho ascoltata spesso da giovane
in tempi più felici
C’è ancora una strofa
riuscirò a ricordarla?

Se l’ansia ancora mi tormenta il cuore
   ritorna ancora, mio fedele amore.
Se reclina il tuo volto in mortale pallore
nemmeno la morte ci potrà separare.
e se verrà il momento della separazione
pensa che ci sarà una resurrezione.
