Endlos geht die Fahrt und traurig,
und das Ziel bleibt unbekannt;
durch die dunkle Nacht so schaurig
winkt dem Fährmann nirgends Land.

Plötzlich durch die Wolken dringet
eines hellen Sternes Licht,
hoffnungsfroh der Schiffer singet:
