In der Mitternacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
Todesstille deckt das Thal
Bey des Mondes [halbem]1 Strahl;
Winde flistern, dumpf und bang,
In des Wächters Nachtgesang.

Leiser, dumpfer tönt es hier
In der bangen Seele mir,
Nimmt den Strahl der Hoffnung fort,
Wie den Mond die Wolke dort.

Hüllt, ihr Wolken, hüllt den Schein
Immer tiefer, tiefer ein!
Vor ihm bergen will mein Herz
Seinen tiefen, tiefen Schmerz.

Nennen soll ihn nicht mein Mund;
Keine Thräne mach' ihn kund;
Senken soll man ihn hinab
Einst mit mir ins kühle Grab.

O der schönen langen Nacht,
Wo nicht Erden-Liebe lacht,
Wo verlaßne Treue nicht
Ihren Kranz von Dornen flicht!

An des Todes milder Hand
Geht der Weg ins Vaterland;
Dort ist Liebe sonder Pein;
Selig, selig werd' ich seyn.

Midden in de nacht
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Doodse stilte hangt in 't dal,
Flauw beschijnt de maan dat al;
Winden fluist'ren dof en bang
In des wachters nachtgezang.

Zachter, doffer, haast fragiel
Klinkt het in mijn bange ziel,
't Neemt de hoop uit mijn bestaan,
Zoals wolken ginds de maan.

Hul, o wolken, hul die schijn
In een inktzwart, dik gordijn!
 'k Wil niet dat het maanlicht ziet
Hoe ik lijd aan diep verdriet.

Denk niet dat ik iets loslaat
En geen traan die het verraadt;
Dit verdriet moet dalen af
Eens met mij in 't koele graf.

O, die mooie lange nacht,
Waarin1 geen aardse liefde lacht,
Waarin1 verlaten trouw niet vecht,
Niet haar krans van doornen vlecht.

Dood leidt ons met milde hand
Op de weg naar 't vaderland;
Daar is liefde zonder pijn;
Zalig, zalig zal ik zijn.
