Dein Silber schien
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT CAT DUT ENG ENG FRE
Dein Silber schien
Durch Eichengrün,
Das Kühlung gab,
Auf mich herab,
O Mond, und lachte Ruh
Mir frohen Knaben zu.

Wenn itzt dein Licht
Durchs Fenster bricht,
Lachts keine Ruh
Mir Jüngling zu,
Siehts meine Wange blaß,
Mein Auge thränennaß.

Bald, lieber Freund,
Ach, bald bescheint
Dein Silberschein
Den Leichenstein,
Der meine Asche birgt,
Des Jünglings Asche birgt!

Your silveriness shone
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Your silveriness shone
Through the green of the oaks,
Which poured coolness
Down upon me,
Oh moon, and smiled peace
To me, the happy lad.

When your light now
Shines through the window,
It smiles no peace
To me, the lad,
It sees my cheek pale,
My eyes wet with tears.

Soon, dear friend,
Ah, soon, your silver
Shall illuminate
The gravestone
That holds my ashes,
Holds the ashes of the young lad!
