Nun hat mein Stecken gute Rast,
   Das Reisen hat ein Ende,
Seit du mein' Hand genommen hast
   In deine beiden Hände.

Du hast mir alle Wanderlust,
   Du liebes Kind, genommen,
Hatt' ich zuvor darum gewußt,
   War' nicht so früh gekommen.

Den Stab pflanz' ich im Garten ein,
   Darin soll er verbleiben,
Vielleicht, er kann im Sonnenschein
   Noch einmal Blätter treiben.

Und treibt er, Kind, nimm dich in Acht, - 
   Er ist im Mai geschnitten, -
Daß ich nicht einmal über Nacht
   Bin wieder ausgeschritten.
