Upon the pillar of the well the dove sat,
The little dove sat, tenderly cooing.
"Fly on, dear dove, wings whirring,
In the foliage conceal yourself from the noonday heat,
From the glow of the sun and from the dust!"
The little dove remained sitting upon the pillar,
And the proud beloved lured it enticingly.
With a cooing, the little dove puffed up its chest,
From the branches growing in the crack of the well
It picked olive leaves, grey in the sparkling sun.
Threw the leaf of peace at his feet,
Into the well-spring that was cooling his limbs,
Into the water that swirled about marble,
Cooed, flying away from him, greetings of love:
'Before you pray, sir, forgive the sweet one!'
