Wie weht die laue Nacht!
Die Sterne Gottes funkeln
In feyerlicher Pracht!
Komm, Mädchen, komm ins Freye,
Und laß in jene Bläue
Und laß zu jenen Höhn
Uns staunend aufwärts sehn.

O Sterne Gottes, Zeugen
Und Boten beßrer Welt,
Ihr heißt den Aufruhr schweigen,
Der unsern Busen schwellt.
Ich seh' hinauf, ihr Hehren,
Zu euren lichten Sphären,
Und Ahnung beßrer Lust
Stillt die empörte Brust.
O Ida, wenn die Schwermuth
Dein sanftes Auge hüllt,
Wenn dir die Welt mit Wermuth
Den Lebensbecher füllt;
So geh hinaus im Dunkeln,
Und sieh die Sterne funkeln,
Und leiser wird dein Schmerz,
Und freyer schlägt dein Herz.
Und wenn im öden Staube
Der irre Geist erkrankt;
Wenn tief in dir der Glaube
An Gott und Zukunft schwankt;
Schau auf zu jenen Fernen
Zu jenen ew'gen Sternen!
Schau auf und glaub an Gott,
Und segne Grab und Tod.
O Ida, wenn die Strenge
Des Schicksals einst uns trennt,
Und wenn das Weltgedränge
Nicht Blick noch Kuß uns gönnt;
So schau hinauf ins Freye,
In jene weite Bläue!
In jenen lichten Höhn,
Dort, dort ist Wiedersehn!
Und wenn ich einst, o Theure,
Von allem Kampf und Krieg
Im stillen Grabe feyre,
So schau empor und sprich:
»In jenen hohen Fernen,
Auf jenen goldnen Sternen,
Dort, wo's am hellsten blitzt,
Wallt mein Verlorner itzt.«
O Sterne Gottes, Boten
Und Bürger beßrer Welt,
Die ihr die Nacht der Todten
Zu milder Dämmrung hellt!
Umschimmert sanft die Stätte,
Wo ich aus stillem Bette
Und süßem Schlaf erwach
Zu Edens schönerm Tag!

Com m’alena la tèbia nit!
Les estrelles de Déu centellegen
en solemne esplendor!
Vine, Ida, vine a fora
i en aquell cel,
en aquelles alçàries,
esguardem cap dalt embadalits.

Oh estrelles de Déu, testimonis
i missatgeres d’un món millor,
vosaltres feu callar el tumult
que agita els nostres cors.
Jo esguardo amunt, vers vosaltres, sublims,
vers les vostres esferes lluminoses
i l’auguri d’un millor delit
calma el meu cor revoltat.
Oh Ida, si la melangia
cobreix els teus dolços ulls,
si el món amb amargor
omple la copa de la teva vida,
aleshores surt a fora, a la foscor
i mira com centellegen les estrelles
i així la teva pena serà més lleugera
i més lliurement bategarà el teu cor.
I quan en la pols erma
el teu errívol esperit emmalalteixi,
quan profundament dintre teu la fe
en Déu i en l’esdevenidor titubegin,
esguarda cap amunt vers aquella llunyania,
vers les estrelles eternes!
Esguarda cap amunt i creu en Déu
i beneeix el sepulcre i la mort.
Oh Ida, si mai la duresa
del destí un dia ens separés
i l’opressió del món no permetés
de veure’ns i abraçar-nos,
aleshores esguarda cap amunt vers l’espai lliure,
vers aquell cel immens!
En aquella alçària lluminosa,
allà, allà ens tornarem a veure!
I si mai, oh estimada,
de totes les guerres i batalles,
la tomba silent m’allibera,
aleshores esguarda cap amunt i digues:
“En aquella alterosa llunyania,
damunt aquelles daurades estrelles,
allà on brillen amb més esclat,
peregrina ara el qui he perdut.”
Oh estrelles de Déu, missatgeres
i ciutadanes d’un món millor,
vosaltres que il•lumineu la nit dels morts
amb un clarejar més suau!
Brilleu dolçament a l’entorn de l’indret
on jo, del meu llit tranquil,
em desperti d’un dolç somni
en el dia més formós de l’edèn!
