Ertönt von Frühlingsmelodien,
Es wallt der Bach im Abendstral
Hinab ins hainumkränzte Thal:
Doch es erhebt der Haine Lied,
Die Au, die tausendfarbig blüht,
Der Erlenbach im Abendlicht
Wie vormals meine Seele nicht!

Mais la lumière du soleil,
le visage souriant de la lune,
La danse des étoiles, silencieuse et magnifique,
Ne remplissent plus avec enthousiasme ce cœur !
La prairie fleurit, le bosquet vert
Résonnent de mélodies printanières.
Le ruisseau bouillonne dans les rayons du soir
Dans la vallée couronnée de bois ;
Mais le chant des bois,
La prairie qui fleurit avec mille couleurs,
Les aulnes près du ruisseau dans le crépuscule
N'élève pas mon âme comme jadis.
