Sie ist gegangen, die Wonnen versanken,
Nun glühen die Wangen, nun rinnen die Thränen;
Es schwanken die kranken,
Die heißen Gedanken,
Es pocht das Herz in Wünschen und Sehnen.

Und hab' ich den Tag mit Andacht begonnen,
Tagüber gelebt in stillem Entzücken,
So leb' ich jetzt träumend,
Die Arbeit versäumend
Von dem, was sie schenkte in Worten und Blicken.

So hängen noch lang nach dem Scheiden des Tages
In säuselnder Nachtluft, beim säuselnden Winde,
Die Bienlein wie trunken
Und wonneversunken
An zitternde Blüthen der duftigen Linde.

Zij is vertrokken, mijn stemming gezonken,
Nu gloeien mijn wangen, nu stromen mijn tranen,
Mijn denkbeelden vonken, 
Zij branden en bonken,
Mijn hart klopt fel, vol hunk’ring en wanen.
 
En ben ik de dag met bidden begonnen,
En leefd’ ik daarna als ’n stille vervoerde,
Zo leef ik nu dromend,
De arbeid ontlopend,
Van dat wat zij schonk mij met blikken en woorden.
 
Zo hangen nog lang na het scheiden van ’t daglicht
In suiz’lende nachtlucht, bij suiz’lende winden,
De bijtjes als dronken,
Extatisch verzonken,
Aan trillende bloesems der geurende linde.
