Angelehnt an die Efeuwand Dieser alten Terrasse, Du, einer luftgebor'nen Muse Geheimnisvolles Saitenspiel, Fang' an, Fange wieder an Deine melodische Klage! Ihr kommet, Winde, fern herüber, Ach! von des Knaben, Der mir so lieb war, Frischgrünendem Hügel. Und Frühlingsblüten unterweges streifend, Übersättigt mit Wohlgerüchen, Wie süß, wie süß bedrängt ihr dies Herz! Und säuselt her in die Saiten, Angezogen von wohllautender Wehmut, Wachsend im Zug meiner Sehnsucht, Und hinsterbend wieder. Leunend tegen de klimopmuur Van dit oude terrashuis, Jij, van een luchtgeboren muze Het mysterieuze snarenspel, Vang aan, Vang opnieuw weer aan Je zo welluidende klaagzang! Van ver weg, winden, kom je over, Ach, van die jongen, Die mij zo lief was, Zijn frisgroene heuvel. En lentebloesems In ‘t voorbijgaan strelend, Overladen met fijne geuren, Hoe zoet, hoe zoet beklem je dit hart! En suizelt neer in de snaren, Aangetrokken door welluidende weemoed, Zwellend door kracht van mijn hunk'ring, En wegstervend daarna. Echter opeens dan, Als de wind heviger aantrekt, Een fraaie kreet, een harpklank, Die herhaalt - en doet prettig mij schrikken - Van mijn ziel de plotse ontroering, En hier, de volle roos ja, strooit, bewogen, Haar vrachtje blaadjes vlak voor mijn voeten!
