by Denis Vasilyevich Davydov (1784 - 1839)
Translation by Friedrich Martin von Bodenstedt (1819 - 1892)

Вечер в июне
Language: Russian (Русский)
Томительный, палящий день
Сгорел; полупрозрачна тень
Немого сумрака приосеняла дали.
Зарницы бегали за синею горой,
И, окропленные росой,
Луга и лес благоухали.
Луна во всей красе плыла на высоту,
Таинственным лучом мечтания питая,
И, преклонясь к лавровому кусту,
Дышала роза молодая.

Am Abend
(Sung text for setting by A. Rubinstein)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Russian (Русский)
Der drückend schwüle Tag hat ausgeglüht,
Der stummen Dämmrung halbdurchsichtger Schatten gab
Labenden Aufenthalt.
Das Wetterleuchten hinterm Berg verschwand,
Und neuerfrischt vom Abendthau
Die Wiesen rings und Felder duften;
In ganzer Schönheit schwimmt der Mond in Himmelshöhn,
Und sein geheimnißvoller Glanz nährt süßes Träumen,
Und an den ernsten Lorbeerstrauch gelehnt
Haucht ihren Duft die junge Rose.
