Jo sóc un màgic, però això de què em serveix?
Car la meva estimada és una fada,
fa burla de mi amb una màgia més enutjosa
quan jo la crido afectuosament:
estimada, on ets?
Avui encara, a través de camps i jardins,
l’anava a cercar;
de sobte, em somrigué des d’una rosa
amb la boca d’un roig candent:
estimat, sóc aquí!
Llavors em vaig transformar en un veloç zèfir
i en el vol vaig besar la rosa.
Ai, només la rosa vaig besar,
car la meva estimada ja s’havia escapolit.
Estimada, on ets?

Escolta, a la vora del bosc
de sobte canta un rossinyol;
la veu m’era ben coneguda
i em cantà amb un dolç ressò:
estimat sóc aquí!
De seguida, transformat en l’estrella del vespre,
sotjava a través de la nit novella;
ai, vaig trobar un niu buit,
l’estimada ja havia marxat.
Estimada, on ets?
I així ella es comporta cada dia,
i no em deixa ni un instant de repòs,

sense fer-se veure em crida:
