Einmal noch zur Abendzeit
Singe von meinem Hügel
Einmal, einmal jenes Lied voll Seligkeit.
Tiefe Glocke meines Glücks!

Dem ich meine junge Stirne 
Lauschend einst empor gewandt,
Da ich noch auf hellen Wegen 
Schritt an meines Liebsten Hand.

I hear many bells ringing
Now that evening falls --
Only one never wishes to sound,
Only one is eternally silent.

Deep bell of my happiness:
Once more at eventide
Sing of my burial mound
Once, once that song full of bliss.

To which I once lifted 
My young brow harkening,
When I still walked upon bright pathways
At the hand of my beloved.
