Der heilige Olaf

Mär von mutigen Männern, Siegesgesang, silbertönig ritz' ich hier ein mit Reih' und Reim von Sankt Olaf, dem König. Wikinger, Wahndienst übend, fromm befreit' er von Wildheit, weihte sie weißem Christ und Jungfrau Marias Mildheit. Südlands Sonne lohte da lind auf der See und dem Strande, Blätter und Blumen brachen hervor unter dem Schneegewande. Rauhe Riesen ließ er erstarren zu Steine, riss und rottete Rohes aus, Hartsinn erweichte der Reine. Alle Asen stürzt' er, hieb der Tempel Haine, einte Altnorge mit Jung- Europas Völkervereine. Doch dann trog und vertrieb ihn treulos das Volk, das arge, tötete ihn, und Jahrhunderte lang sucht' es sein Seelenheil an seinem Sarge.
