A widow bird
See original
Language: English
A widow bird sate mourning for her love
Upon a wintry bough,
The frozen wind crept on above;
The freezing stream below.
There was no leaf upon the forest bare,
No flowers upon the ground
And little motion in the air,
Except the mill-wheel's sound.
Some settings use the modernized spelling "sat" instead of "sate"

Un passero solitario il suo amore lamenta
sopra un ramo invernale,
Striscia in alto una gelida tormenta,
sotto scorre una fredda corrente.
Non una foglia copre la foresta nuda,
non ci sono fiori sul prato
e nell'aria nessun altro moto,
soltanto, nel mulino, gira la mola.
