Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT ENG FRE
O alte Heimat süß!
Wo find' ich wieder dich?
Welch ein Qual ist dies?
Warum verfolgst du mich?
Warum ertötest mich?

O ferner Liebesschein,
Glimmst wieder nach mir her?
Soll dies mein Glücke sein?
Mir fällt das Leid zu schwer, --
Wer denkt wohl meiner, wer?

Bald such' ich Linderung
Bei dir, o Tränenguß;
Denk' dann, es ist genug,
Dann denk' ich ihren Kuß
Und daß ich wandern muß, --

Au loin
 (Sung text translation for setting by F. Hensel)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Ô mon ancienne et douce patrie,
Où te trouverai-je à nouveau ?
Quelle douleur est-ce là !
Pourquoi me poursuis-tu ?
Pourquoi me détruis-tu ?

Ô éclat d'amour lointain,
Brilles-tu encore après moi,
Ceci doit-il être mon bonheur ?
Une telle souffrance est trop lourde pour moi,
Qui pense à moi, qui ?

Bientôt près de toi, je chercherai le réconfort,
Ô source de larmes ;
je penserai alors que cela suffit.
Alors je penserai à son baiser
Et que je dois être au loin.
