Abendlandschaft
 (Sung text for setting by F. Hensel)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT ENG FRE
  Goldner Schein
  Deckt den Hain,
Mild beleuchtet Zauberschimmer
Der umbüschten Waldburg Trümmer.

  Still und hehr
  Stralt das Meer;
Heimwärts gleiten, sanft wie Schwäne,
Fern am Eiland Fischerkähne.

  Silbersand
  Blinkt am Strand;
Röther schweben hier, dort blässer,
Wolkenbilder im Gewässer.

  Rauschend kränzt
  Goldbeglänzt
Wankend Ried des Vorlands Hügel,
Wildumschwärmt vom Seegeflügel.

 ...

  Auf der Fluth
  Stirbt die Gluth;
Schon erblaßt der Abendschimmer
An der hohen Waldburg Trümmer.

  Vollmondschein
  Deckt den Hain;
Geisterlispel wehn im Thale
Um versunkne Heldenmale.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,3-4,8-9 of the original text.

Note: stanzas 6 and 7 were omitted in the Zürich editions 1792-1815; they were replaced in the Tübingen 1811 and the Zürich 1821/25 editions by the following:

  Pappeln wehn
  Auf den Höhn,
Eichen glühn, zum Schattendome
Dicht verschränkt, am Felsenstrome.

  Nebelgrau
  Webt im Thau
Elfenreigen, dort wo Rüstern
Am Druidenaltar flüstern.

Licht van goud
 (Sung text translation for setting by F. Hensel)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Licht van goud
Dekt het woud;
Mild verlicht betoov'rend schijnen
In het bos de Waldburgpuinen.

Stil, gedwee
Straalt de zee;
Huiswaarts glijden, als zwanenvloten,
Ver bij 't eiland vissersboten.

Zilverzand
Blinkt aan 't strand,
Roder hier, daar delicater,
Wolkenbeelden in het water.

Ruisend kranst,
Goudbeglansd,
Wuivend riet de schorrenheuvels,
Wild omzwermd door vogelvleugels.

 ...

Op de vloed
Sterft de gloed;
Reeds verbleekt het avondschijnen
Bij de hoge Waldburgpuinen.

Volle maan
Boven de laan;
Geestgelispel waait in vlagen
Om verzonken heldengraven.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,3-4,8-9 of the original text.
