Når kommer rosen tiden?
(Sung text for setting by H. Kjerulf)
 See original
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)
Du første rose, du, som jeg ser
i disse fremmede dale,
med åbne læber så sødt du ler,
men sødt, så må du og tale?

O sig mig og svar: Er ej rosen-tid
snart, snart på vinger ivente
for en, den du ved; ja, bøj dig hid,
et ord fra mit hjerte at hente --

For en, så stolt og så tro som guld,
som aldrig undte mig det ilde --
Jeg breder hende vejen af torne fuld,
alt det jeg end bedre vilde.

Composition:

Set to music by Halfdan Kjerulf (1815 - 1868), "Når kommer rosen tiden?", op. 11 no. 1 [ voice and piano ], also set in German (Deutsch)

Text Authorship:

  • by Theodor Kjerulf (1825 - 1888)
  • sometimes misattributed to Johan Sebastian Cammermeyer Welhaven (1807 - 1873)
