Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich
Und sehe dich freundlich grüßen,
Und laut aufweinend stürz' ich mich
Zu deinen süßen Füßen.

Du siehst mich an wehmütiglich
Und schüttelst das blonde Köpfchen;
Aus deinen Augen schleichen sich  
Die Perlentränentröpfchen.

Du sagst mir heimlich ein leises Wort
Und gibst mir den Strauß von Zypressen.
Ich wache auf, und der Strauß ist fort,
Und 's Wort hab' ich vergessen.

En zie dan jou vriend'lijk groeten,
En luid plots huilend val ik neer,
Besproei jouw lieve voeten.
 
Dan kijk jij mij aan vol medelij
En schudt zacht je blonde kopje;
En uit je ogen sluipen weg
Als parels tranendropjes.
 
Jij geeft mij takjes van een cipres
En laat mij heel zachtjes iets weten.
Dan ik ontwaak, het boeket is weg,
En 't woord ben ik vergeten.
