by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475 - 1564)
Translation by Sophie Hasenclever (1824 - 1892)

Deh fammiti vedere in ogni loco!
Language: Italian (Italiano)
  Deh fammiti vedere in ogni loco!
Se da mortal bellezza arder mi sento,
appresso al tuo mi sarà foco ispento,
e io nel tuo sarò, com’ero, in foco.

  Signor mie caro, i’ te sol chiamo e ’nvoco
contr’a l’inutil mie cieco tormento:
tu sol puo’ rinnovarmi fuora e drento

Ogni ben senza te, Signor, mi manca;
il cangiar sorte è sol poter divino.

Dich lass an jedem Ort mich schau'n
 (Sung text for setting by T. Streicher)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Dich lass an jedem Ort mich schau'n! Dein Feuer
Verschlinge jeder Erdenliebe Flammen,

Nicht ich kann wandeln dies mein sündig Leben;
Nichts ohne dich ist gut in mir, erlösen
Kannst du allein, nur du mein Schicksal wenden!

Composition:

    Set to music by Theodor Streicher (1874 - 1940), "Dich lass an jedem Ort mich schau'n" [ voice and piano ], from Michelangelo.
