Jag sitter, källa, vid din rand
Och ser på molnens tåg,
Hur, ledda af en osedd hand,
De vexla i din våg.

Der kom en sky, den log så röd,
Som rosenknoppen ler.
Farväl! Hur snart farväl den bjöd,
För att ej komma mer.

Dock, der en annan mera klar
Och strålande igen!
Ack, lika flyktig, lika snar,
Försvinner äfven den.

Lähteellä
(Sung text translation for setting by F. Ehrström)
 See original
Language: Finnish (Suomi)  after the Swedish (Svenska)
Minä istun partaallasi, lähde
ja katselen pilvien kulkua,
kuinka ne näkymättömän käden ohjaamina
vuorollaan vaeltavat aalloillasi.

Tuossakin tuli yksi, se hymyili niin punaisena,
kuin se olisi ollut ruusunnuppu;
miten nopeasti se jättikään jäähyväisensä
eikä palannut enää koskaan.

Mutta tuossa on toinen, vielä kirkkaampi,
vieläkin loistavampi!
Voi, yhtä hätäisesti, yhtä äkkiä
sekin katoaa näkyvistä.
