Es ritten drei Reuter zu München hinaus,
Sie ritten wohl vor der Bernauerin ihr Haus,
Bernauerin, bist du drinnen? Ja drinnen?
 
Bist du darinnen, so tritt du heraus,
Der Herzog ist draußen vor ihrem Haus,
Mit allem seinem Hofgesinde, ja Gesinde.
 
Sobald die Bernauerin vors Tor hinaus kam,
Drei Herren gleich die Bernauerin vernahm:
Bernauerin, was willst Du machen, ja machen?
 
Ei, willst du lassen den Herzog entwegn,
Oder willst du lassen dein jungfrisches Lebn
Ertrinken im Donauwasser? Ja Wasser?
 
Und als ich nicht will meinen Herzog entwegn,
So will ich lassen mein jungfrisches Lebn
Ertrinken im Donauwasser, ja Wasser.
