Es stand ein Sternlein am Himmel,
Ein Sternlein guter Art;
Das tät so lieblich scheinen,
So lieblich und so zart!

Ich wußte seine Stelle
Wo es am Himmel stand;
Trat abends vor die Schwelle,
Und suchte, bis ich's fand;

Und blieb dann lange stehen,
Hatt' große Freud' in mir,
Das Sternlein anzusehen;
Und dankte Gott dafür.

Das Sternlein ist verschwunden;
Ich suche hin und her
Wo ich es sonst gefunden,
Und find' es nun nicht mehr.

Il y avait une petite étoile dans le ciel,
Une petite étoile de bonnes manières ;
Elle avait l'habitude de briller si doucement,
Si doucement et si tendrement !

Je connaissais l'endroit
Dans le ciel où elle se tenait ;
le soir je sortais devant la porte,
Et je cherchais jusqu'à ce que je la trouve ;

Et alors je restais debout
Avec une grande joie en moi,
À regarder la petite étoile ;
Et je remerciais Dieu pour cela.

La petite étoile est partie ;
Je la cherche ici et là
Où je la trouvais d'habitude,
Et maintenant je ne la trouve plus.
