Tritt ein Mädchen doch allnächtig
Dort freundlich herfür.
Und ist auch die Kleine
Nicht die Schönst' auf der Welt,
So gibt's doch just Keine,
Die mir besser gefällt.
Und spricht sie vom Freien:
So schwing' ich mich auf mein Roß --
Ich bleibe im Freien,
Und sie auf dem Schloß.

Bien que mon cheval ne soit pas très fringant,
Il est cependant très malin,
Il me porte dans le noir vers un petit château
Assez vite.
Bien que le château ne soit pas tout à fait magnifique,
De la porte vers le jardin
Chaque nuit marche une jeune fille,
Là-bas aimablement.
Et bien que cette petite
Ne soit pas la plus belle au monde,
Il n'y en a pas d'autre
Que j'aime mieux.
Et si elle parle de mariage
Je sauterai sur mon cheval --
Je resterai dehors
Et elle restera au château.
