Zugemessne Rhythmen
(Sung text for setting by R. Strauss)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
 ...

Zugemeßne Rhythmen reizen freilich,
Das Talent erfreut sich wohl darin,
Doch wie schnelle widern sie abscheulich,
Hohle Masken ohne Blut und Sinn.
Selbst der Geist erscheint sich nicht erfreulich,
Wenn er nicht, auf neue Form bedacht,
Jener toten Form ein Ende macht.

Note: the text above is taken from stanza 3 of the original text.

Afgemeten ritmes
(Sung text translation for setting by R. Strauss)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
 ...

Afgemeten ritmes zijn behaaglijk,
Het talent vindt groot plezier daarin,
Maar hoe spoedig zijn ze onverdraaglijk,
Holle maskers zonder bloed en zin.
Zelfs de geest wordt gemelijk en klaaglijk,
Als hij niet, door nieuwe vorm geraakt,
Aan die doodse vorm een einde maakt.

Note: the text above is taken from stanza 3 of the original text.
