by Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941)
Translation by Anonymous / Unidentified Author

I plucked your flower, O world!
Language: English  after the Bangla (Bengali)
Our translations:  FRE GER
I plucked your flower, O world!
I pressed it to my heart and the thorn pricked.
When the day waned and it darkened,
I found that the flower had faded,
but the pain remained.

More flowers will come to you
with perfume and pride, O world!
But my time for flower-gathering is over,
and through the dark night I have not my rose,
only the pain remains.

Colsi il tuo fiore, o mondo!
(Sung text for setting by F. Alfano)
 Matches base text

Composition:

Set to music by Franco Alfano (1876 - 1954), "Colsi il tuo fiore, o mondo!", 1948 [ voice and piano ], from Cinque nuove Liriche tagoriane, no. 4
