Und trillert Morgenchöre.
Ich fühle mich im Herzen krank,
Wenn ich's von unten höre.

Ein Stündchen nur schleich' ich heraus
In euer lustig Sommerhaus
Und muss mich des beklagen;
Ihr lebet stets in Saus und Braus,
Seht's nachten hier und tagen.

Ihr sucht der Bäume grünes Dach,
Der Wiese Schmelz, den Kieselbach,
Ihr flieht vor Stadt and Mauer,
Und laßt die Menschen seufzen ach,
In ihrem Vogelbauer.

Vous les oiseaux, dans le balancement des rameaux
comme vous êtes gais et frais et sans détour
quand vous chantez dans les chœurs du matin.
J'en ai le cœur malade
Quand d'en bas je vous entends.

Je me glisse dehors juste une petite heure
dans votre chalet d'été joyeux
et il me faut le déplorer ;
vous faites la noce en permanence ,
on vous y voit nuit et jour.

Vous recherchez le vert toit des arbres,
L'éclat de la prairie, le ruisseau caillouteux,
vous volez devant ville et muraille,
et vous laissez les hommes soupirer « hélas »,
dans leur cage.
