Die Minnesänger
 (Sung text for setting by R. Schumann)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE POR
Zu dem Wettgesange schreiten
Minnesänger jetzt herbei;
Ei, das gibt ein seltsam Streiten,
Ein gar seltsames Turnei!

Phantasie, die schäumend wilde,
Ist des Minnesängers Pferd,
Und die Kunst dient ihm zum Schilde,
Und das Wort, das ist sein Schwert.

Hübsche Damen schauen munter
Vom beteppichten Balkon,
Doch die rechte ist nicht drunter
Mit der rechten Lorbeerkron'.

Andre Leute, wenn sie springen
In die Schranken, sind gesund;
Doch wir Minnesänger bringen
Dort schon mit die Todeswund'.

Les ménestrels
 (Sung text translation for setting by R. Schumann)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Aujourd'hui les ménestrels
Se rendent au concours de chant ;
Eh, c'est un étrange combat,
Un bien étrange tournoi !

La fantaisie, vive, écumante,
Est la monture du ménestrel,
Et l'art lui sert de bouclier,
Et le mot est son épée.

De belles dames enjouées se montrent
Au balcon orné de tapis.
Mais la vraie n'est pas parmi elles
Avec la vraie couronne de laurier.

Les autres, quand ils sautent
Dans la lice, sont plein de santé ;
Mais nous, les ménestrels, nous y venons
Avec déjà des blessures mortelles.
