Die zingt een lied in 't donker
En kwelt zich langer niet.
Hij wandelt moedig verder
Op de¹ mensenloze baan,
Veel lichte lied'renbeelden,
Die ziet hij vóór zich gaan.
 
Mij ook is 't nacht geworden,
Mijn vrienden zijn heel ver,
En van mijn hemel vlucht nu
De allerlaatste ster;
Toch ga ik moedig verder
Op de mensenloze baan.
Nog zie ik lied'renbeelden
Hel lichtend vóór mij gaan.
